Q: OS X Sierra iPhoto to photos

Just updated iMac to OS X Sierra and Photos will not open my pics from iPhoto.  It tries to create the library but never gets past 24%, at which point it stops and gives a message box saying there were inconsistencies in the library.  How do I get past this?

What version of the OS and of iPhoto are you upgrading from? Where is your Photos library located? If on an external hard drive what format is it and how is it connected  (it must be Mac OS extended (journaled) connected with a wired connection)? How much free space do you have on yoru ahrd drive?

iPhoto version 8.1.2 updated to Photos 2.0

pics are on the iMac hard drive

22 GB available on HD, a little nervous about cleaning up or even emptying trash until Photos are restored/opened

not sure where I can find version of OS upgraded from now that I've installed new OS
