Q: Using Optimized Storage on Multiple Macs with the same iCloud Account

MacOS Sierra now lets us use iCloud storage for Desktop and Documents files.  That's a cool feature and I've already implemented it on my MacBook Pro.  I haven't yet upgraded my iMac to Sierra but when I do I'm curious if I can turn on Optimized Storage on that computer as well.  I see that my iCloud folder shows a "Desktop" and "Documents" folder from the Macbook Pro, but what happens when the iMac starts to upload "Desktop" and "Documents" files?  Do they get combined with the files from the Macbook?  Or does iCloud create a new Desktop and Documents folder for the iMac's files with a flag or whatever to signify that these files belong to the iMac and not the Macbook?
