Q: Is anyone else frustrated by the the removal of song ratings?

In the last version of the Music app, rating a song was a simple process of tapping on the album cover on your iPod or iPhone, and then giving that track a rating of 1 to 5.

Now, the only native (ie. without a 3rd party app) way to do this is to tell Siri what rating you want to give a song.

Nine times out of ten, Siri gets this wrong, AND the track stops playing whilst you do this.

I know this is a first world problem, but I am now hearing mutterings that the rating system might be on it's way out!

I create smart playlists using the rating of songs...is anyone else annoyed by this 'enhancement'?

You are far from alone.  Have seen quite a few comments in other articles reviewing the iOS 10 music app all complaining about the loss of the stars.  Yet again, Apple REMOVES a feature that many people use and want to keep.  Time and time again, they cannot get the music app right.  I swear, it's like they are doing it on purpose for some sadomasochistic reason.  Between this and removing the recently played music from the 'up next' list it makes me wish the Zune hadn't died.

What needs to happen is they open up whatever API is necessary to allow 3rd party music apps to update the ratings, last played date and playcounts.  There are lots of better music apps out there, but none of them can update those things so if you use smart playlists (which is the only reason to continue to use iTunes in my opinion) then 3rd party apps are a non-starter.  There are other posts in this forum on this topic as well.  Would be nice to get a huge petition going to bring it back in an update.

Yes, yes, yes...the recently played and the weird 'play later' which appears and disappears depending on whether your in song view, album view or playlist view is an amazing step backwards.
