Q: iphone 7 plus battery drain, do not go standby, standby same with usage

Hi.

My iphone 7 plus has battery drain issues. I requested replacement and it came today. So far the standby sometimes same with usage but I did not check it yet since it is new, but I realised that after i restart my phone problem disappears but suddenly starts again. I have no idea which app or what causes the problem since I tried to reset it sometimes it happens right after the reset ( today it happened when i started my new replacement phone).

PS. I used both ios 10.0.1 and ios 10.1 beta 1. Problem is not there with my iphone 6s plus on both of those operating systems, but it has the same issue on my 7 plus even though all apps are the same.

I would appreciate if anyone could help.

Thanks.

Sounds like you possibly have a rogue app.

Restore the phone as a new device.  Add the apps back one by one until you find the rogue app.

I agree with gdgmacguy's assessment. If your standby and usage are the same, you have a rogue process or app that is causing the device to try and do something it cannot complete. Restore to factory and test for a bit, then start adding content back individually. I believe your backup is corrupt, especially if you are trying to use beta at the same time. Also, any beta issues that you experience cannot be discussed here in the public forum, you need to use the beta reporting app to report them.

Hİ thanks for reply. Yeah i tried, i ve been trying to find an issue as a scientific research by looking my battery usage ALWAYS. So gar the issue pops up suddenly. Even as i told u, today my fresh new iphone had this issie. May be bbm , because it shows the highest usage of battery and had nearly 2.5 hours of background activity. But even without bbm, issue suddenly pops out. The only thing that i am sure is it goes after restart.

Are you using a backup? If you have only added bbm and are experiencing the problem, then that is the issue. Something about it, or any data could be causing the issue. I'm using an iPhone 7 with iOS 10.0.2 and do not see this type of behavior, and I used the backup of my iPhone 6S to set it up.

No. İ am not using backup. No, it did not started after bbm, it even starts without it. Here are my recent usage hours:

6-16, 28-49*, 37-72*, 46-82, 47-85* , star indicates turned off screen,  so far so good with this replacement phone, but i am nit sure. Battery life in my 6s plus was superb with ios 10.0.1 . İ even got my second day with bormal usage. But on my previous 7 plus it had this issue and i needed to charge every evening regardless of my usage.

Let me see if I understand this right. You got 47 hours of usage, and 85 hours of standby and you are complaining? I originally understood that you say it could be bbm since you were adding apps, and then it was using the highest percentage of battery.

Sorry for confusion. The numbers are in minutes and now bbm is installed. it had this issue with bbm before, but now after restart i dont. İ am not sure why this issue happening and goes away after restart. as i said the only thing that i am sure is it disappears when i restart my phone and comes back suddenly.

Okay, so you have 47 minutes of usage and 85 minutes of standby. Was this from 100% charge? If so, what is the resulting charge percentage at that time? Restore the device to factory using iTunes. Then test the device without adding any additional applications or other changes, for at least longer than 85 minutes and see what happens. What were you doing for that 47 minutes of usage?

    Hi.

I followed this post's advise: My iPhone 7 Battery Drain Fix...

So far, it looks good. I will update final info about my replacement phone after I actually start using it as my iphone 6s plus. Thanks for respond. On that time I was using my phone. The phone does not have problem since each time I tried to see if stand by and usage is same , it was not (which standby works). Also, I noticed one thing here that on my previous iphone 7 plus, on battery section it didn't show any 7 day usage statistics, I thought it was because I didn't use the battery for 7 days since full charge. but on this one it shows 7 days usage section regardless that. Maybe my earlier iphone ios sytem was corrupted , I dont know,  I will update. Thank you very much.

Ok so the problem started today. here are analysis of my battery usage results: 6:05 8:41 ,standby here 6:17-8:53, remove bbm standby here= 6:21-8:57. 6:26-9:02 , no another app and st by . 6:32-9:08. Reminder off 6:36 9:12 st by 9:41-9:17. ( i am pretty sure restart will fix this but i cannot see the result until i fully charge my phone , but maybe only charging fixes that, i will check that too. i will not restart my phone and will charge it fully overnight and see if the problem exists. i am taking all of the actions i did back (installing bbm etc...) .

I dont know whats wrong. I only installed paypal today thats all I installed extra than tomorrow and morning (which standby worked). I started from fully 100% and it went from 100 to 96 in 3 hours of total standby and 1 hour usage. I was happy. Then suddenly the issue started now I have9 hr of tiotal standby and 6hr of usage and battery went from 100 to 40. I mean according to that usage, battery life is ok but as u can see from above, its not going to standby something is working background. I will be really happy if we could resolve this problem. Thanks.

What I did from what I remember is: I used my phone as a timer. I used my phone to check emails. I used my phone to chat on bbm and it was severe chatting and phone got slightly hot. Thats where I realaised the issue started.

What I will do is: i will completely remove bbm and restart my phone back to solve an issue and see if this issue comes back without bbm.
