change generic microphone icon in "artists"

in itunes 12.5, how does one get artist's picture in "artists" instead of generic circle w/microphone? in the previous version, it used the 1st album art listed as the default when not purchased from itunes store.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), 16g ram

There are at least two threads here in the forums on this topic, with pages and pages of users expressing frustration at what has been changed here by Apple. If you hunt out these threads and have a read I'm sure you'll find a various array of reasons why this happened, though as yet Apple haven't confirmed it's even an issue, let along allowing us - the customer and music content owner - to choose how artist images are displayed. It does seem though that this is some link back to iTunes and an Artist database of some sort. Gone are the days when the album art is used (which would be logical really) - we are now stuck with the stupid round picture that is either obscure at best, or a pink microphone. Sadly I mad the mistake of updating my iPhone, which has meant in the past two days i could not sync to the previous version of iTunes, so now I have pink microphone circles everywhere. There is no short answer, and seemingly no ability to the user/owner to control their content. Hunt around under the same grouping (itunes/mac) and you'll find the threads.

Interesting observation... 🙂 I think there must be a separate online repository of "artist images" (different from album artwork) that Apple maintains on their servers. When I do a right-click on an artist that has an actual picture shown in iTunes Artists view, and select Go to -> Show in iTunes Store (or Show in Apple Music), that same artist image appears there. OR, they have a much fancier special presentation. When I do the same for an artist that has the generic "microphone" image, their presentation in iTunes Store is also "generic" without a separate artist image.

Therefore, if you see the microphone, it probably means that artist's artist image is currently not available.
