Q: iphone 7+ Home Button

I have the iPhone 7+.  I have noticed that I have to tap abnormally hard on the home button if the device is laying on a desk and the "taptic engine" doesn't seem to work in that scenario as well.  It works fine while holding it or resting it on something like a soft arm rest but often times I just want to change a song or check something real quick while working at my desk and don't want to keep picking the phone up. Many times I end up inadvertently opening up the voice control by tapping on it wrong.  Seems even more difficult to double tap to see your open apps.  I have tried all the home button settings.  Nothing seems to help.  Has anyone else noticed this?  Is there a setting or fix that I may have missed?  May need to resort to putting something soft under the phone but in my opinion, this task really should be easier to perform than it currently is.

Thanks.

    Hello cswagner,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. I know how important having your new iPhone work as you expect is to you! It sounds like your Home button is not behaving as you expect, even after adjusting the settings at Settings > General > Home Button. The Home button still is pressure sensitive, so I would recommend these troubleshooting steps to resolve your issue and get your iPhone and Home button working again.

If the Home button doesn't work

The Home button is on the front of your iOS device, at the bottom. If the Home button doesn't work, follow these steps:

    1. Press the Sleep/Wake button to lock your device.
    2. Wait a couple of seconds.
    3. Press the Home button. Your device should wake up.

If your device doesn't wake up, follow these steps. Test the Home button after each step:

    1. Restart your device.
    2. Check for debris or dirt around the Home button and clean it with a soft cloth.
    3. Remove any protective film or case that covers the Home button.

If the Home button still doesn't wake the device, or if the button is damaged, contact Apple Support.
If the button or switch still isn't working, if it works intermittently, or if it's damaged, contact Apple Support to set up service.
