Q: Photos won't open

Hi, I updated my iMac to Sierra.  I also used an app called Gemini2 because all my photos were in double.

Now, photos won't even open.  I try a hard reset, deleted Gemini2 and I still have the same error message.

Thanks!

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12)

Do you have a backup you made prior to the upgrade?

After finding out that Gemini2 is produced by MacPaw, I suspect that if it is like anything else that MacPaw produces it has completely corrupted your disk drive.

There are very few safe duplicate removal programs and Gemini 2 is not one of them - I am not aware that anyone has tested it but I suggest you NEVER use a duplicate program not fully tested - chances are that it destroyed your library (their CleanMyMac has destroyed many libraries and a few Macs)

restore yoru backup and neve ruse any program not tested

    three safe programs are PowerPhotos

    DUplicate Annihilator for PHotos

    PowerSweeper for Photos

I suggest that you never use any software from MacPaw - they product Malwear

    Thank you for your help.

Unfortunalety, I don't have a backup hard drive for this computer... (it's stupid I know)  Is there any chance I still can get my photos?

    Tanks again

No idea - it depends on what damage you caused by using Malwear

Right click on your Photos library and show package contents - look in the Masters and see what is there - if your full resolution original photos are there then you can start over from scratch with a new library - copy the Masters folser to the desktop, hold dowh teh option key while launching Photos and create a new library and drag each folder of photos fro the copy of the Masters folder to Photos
