Q: Does an iTunes backup still save "deleted" texts on iMessage?

Can you recover deleted texts on iMessage if you do an iTunes backup after they had been deleted, even if I didn't back up my iPhone before the texts were deleted? I know the messages are still on my iPhone somewhere because the iMessage app takes up about 3 GB of space, which is the same amount it was before they deleted themselves for no apparent reason.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.2

    Hey mupu99,

Thanks for being a part of Apple Support Communities.

I understand you're wanting to recover deleted messages from a backup made after they were deleted.  This cannot be done, since the data needs to exist on the iPhone in the first place for it to be backed up. You'll need to restore from a previous backup when the messages were on the device: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

If your messages were deleted automatically, then please confirm your Keep Messages setting:

If you want to keep your messages for a certain amount of time, go to Settings > Messages > Keep Messages. Then select how long you want to keep your messages.

Use Messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

    Take care.
