How to update iPod Classic 80GB

I have iTunes on my laptop PC. Got notice of need to install iCloud. OK. So I downloaded iCloud. It then said, cannot use iCloud till update IOS device, which in my case, only IOS I have is iPod Classic.

Went, per Apple website instructions, to my iPod and to dialed to the "Settings" tab, but there is no "General" sub-tab there !! from which I can follow the further steps/instructions.

Help!

* PS. Its been over 9 months, that I am unable to synch my iPod to songs in my iTunes library. May be because I do not have iCloud, the sync function no longer works! Now I downloaded Cloud in my PC, but can't proceed with the rest of this process.

Can I delete iCloud from my PC.

iCloud is not on your PC. It's Apple's cloud-based services, such as online storage. Access to iCloud does not directly affect syncing of your iPod, so let's ignore iCloud for the moment.

Sync no longer appears in iTunes Lib, none...

That's not very clear... It says you use Windows 7. Is that correct? And do you have the latest version of iTunes installed (which is currently 12.5.1) or is it an older version? If it's older, what version is it (so I can correctly describe what to do)?

Assuming it's the current version of iTunes, when you connect iPod to your computer's USB port, the iPod appears in iTunes window as a device button. Here's a screenshot of my iTunes window (upper-left corner), with iPod's device button is circled in red.

Do you see this button when you connect iPod?

Just cause i do not use ipod for many months, two years, no longer valid, obsolete device! What a joke.

If you focus on solving problem, without the side commentary, this will be easier... And in case it's not clear, I'm not Apple; this is Apple's user discussion forum, and I'm just another user. Complaining to me is pointless.

If you only see the battery charging symbol, there's no data connection between iPod and computer. Does the iPod currently operate as an iPod, when disconnected? In other words, does it start up properly show its menu screens and play songs (if it has any songs loaded)?

No data connection (and also the slow charging) could indicate a problem on the computer's USB bus, a faulty USB docking cable, or a problem on iPod.

As a test, shut down (power off) computer and disconnect all USB devices. You can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected, if used. If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so it's not running in battery power). Do this to Reset (restart) iPod

Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on the computer, by itself. Is there any difference?

Does the iPod startup properly, and show its home menu screen (and play songs if it has any loaded)? If it does not, it won't connect either.

At your next opportunity, you can try putting it into Disk Mode

How to put your iPod into disk mode - Apple Support

If it goes into Disk Mode, connect it to your computer running iTunes. Normally, iTunes prompts you to do a Restore, which erases iPod and sets it to default "factory" condition.

It's also possible that your USB docking cable is faulty. That would account for the things you describe. Try another docking cable if you have one.

iPods (except for iPod touch) do not use iCloud in any way. Your iPod classic is associated with your iTunes library on your computer (for automatic syncing), and it does not access the Internet. And your iPod does not run iOS.

How your iPod syncs with your computer's iTunes library has not changed in a long time, so the problem is not related to iCloud, at least not directly. The instructions you were trying to follow are only for iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch), so confusion is understandable.

PS. Its been over 9 months, that I am unable to synch my iPod to songs in my iTunes library.

Can you describe this, your actual problem, in more detail? Does the iPod appear in iTunes when you connect it? If it does, what happens when you try to sync it? Do you get any error message?

Are you using the latest version of iTunes (12.5.1) or an earlier version?
