Q: how do I format  a flash drive to fat 32

the navigation system on my new car only accepts USB flash drives formatted as Fat32.

How do format the drive to Fat 32?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), a variety of dead PC's from W. Vista to W8

Choose the drive in Disk Utility. Click the Erase button and then choose MS-DOS (FAT) from the menu.
