I picked up my phone this morning and it talks to me. When I tap an app. it says "calculator, double tap to open" Also, it announces my calendar items out loud, and everything. How do I turn this off?

You may have Voiceover set to on in Accessibility. To check, go to Settings, General, Accessibility and Voiceover. From within the Voiceover settings, see if Voiceover is set to On (green). If so, toggle to Off (white).
If that does not solve the issue, also check the Speech section (also in the Accessibility subsections) and see if anything is set On.

Invoke Siri by pressing and holding the Home button. Then say, "Turn off Voice Over".
