how to disable mail windows animations in Sierra

Does anyone know how to disable the crazy fly out animations for Send and Receive in Apple Mail ?

In earlier versions there was a package available in GitHub that did the trick but that has not been updated and I guess it won't be (the author gives instructions for doing it yourself with XCODE - more than I feel comfortable doing).

There must be some simple way or app that will tweak this... this is driving me back to Outlook!!!

thanks

Thanks Lero-

I can't capture a screen grab. The action I'm talking about is motion...when you click reply, the screen jumps around before just showing the reply screen. When you send a reply, the screen moves up to the top of the window like a titling effect in a movie. All fine if you just send one email - to me very annoying over time. In previous versions of OS X I was always able to find a site where someone hacked it and had a script to turn off the animations...can't find one for Sierra.

Looks like maybe Airmail is the answer if I can't find something to "fix" mail. Oh, how I long for the old Eudora ...looked a lot like apple mail with options 15 years ago (I'm sure it wasn't safe like Mail but it was functional and not glitzy).

cheers,

tom

I am sorry, however I have never seen this as part of Mail.app behavior.

The default behavior is the reply screen slides up from the bottom, and when sent smoothly slides up and out the top.

Or you sure this is not a third party feature? Boot into Safe Boot mode and test your Mail function.

Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18760?locale=en_US

I have been more than happy with the Mac Mail.app after 10 yrs of being a Eudora user myself.

Thanks, Lero

In SAFE mode, the animations do seem to be less - straight up instead of "bouncing onto" the screen when replying and straight up for sending instead of "zooming" off the screen. This also caused me to try the effects in Full Screen mode - they are also less there but that subjects you to the other effects of full screen with the sliding off to the right to open safari pages etc.

The only third part item I use with mail is the plug in "letter opener" so we can open windows attachments and I don't think this comes from that. I checked on my wife's 2 macs and they both have the same animation effects.

Any thoughts?

thanks

Edit - oops, sorry this is not what you were looking for..

In the upper right corner of your screen is a menu, to the right of the Spotlight search icon. It looks like bullet points and lines. Click on that. A menu will slide out onto your screen and it has 2 tabs at the top. Click on Notifications. At the bottom of that tab's menu is a small round icon that looks a bit like the Mercedes star logo tilted to the side a bit. Click on that. The Notifications popup properties box appears. From the nav list on the left, click on Mail. You can now change the settings for the Mail Notifications or just turn them off.

Yes, here is how you do it.

sudo defaults write com.apple.mail DisableSendAnimations -bool true

sudo defaults write com.apple.mail DisableReplyAnimations -bool true

I agree that all this idiotic Apple obsession with animating everything is cancer. I just want to see what I asked for as fast as possible. These animations are useless, distracting and make the Mac look like a cutesy toy rather than a real computer. Apple's UI team is turning the Mac into the toy that Windows users said it was.

It's shameful.

I try to turn off every animation I can everywhere. I just want a FAST UI without glaring white and hideous painful blue colors.

Give me back the UI from Snow Leopard without all this animated garbage.

Good luck.
