Did you reset both to factory defaults? If you just gave it to her, of course she has full access to everything.

She is either still logged in to your Apple ID under Settings > Messages or you didn't factory reset it. If you never reset it, tell her to go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Contents and Settubgs. Do this, and your worries will be gone. If you already did, make sure she isn't logged into your Apple ID.

I bet they're sharing an Apple ID...

Your wife needs her own apple ID

Set iPhone 6 back to factory settings then set up as a new iPhone

Make sure your wife has a working  Email address before you do this.

Yes, she probably is. The same Apple ID can be in use on multiple devices.

You have to reset the device to factory defaults. Two devices can have the same Apple ID.
