Q: iMac runs way too slow + EtreCheck inside

hey all,

when using Adobe illustrator or final cut - everything just moves slow or loads up very slow, like - when loading a project in adobe software even if its a bit heavy it still takes way too long for it to save or to load.

what is the problem here? not strong enough CPU? not enough RAM? not using a pure SSD?

help please!!

I"m going to state that your iMac needs more RAM installed.

The newest Mac OSes use a lot more computer resources.

Apple only installs enough base RAM to allow their OSes to run nominally smooth.

8 GBs of RAM is enough to run macOS Sierra at that is it!

You will need to install more RAM to run Adobe applications and Final Cut.

Your iMac is simply starved for RAM resources.

Your year and model iMac can take, at least, up to 16 GBs of RAM.

Correct and reliable Mac RAM can ONLY be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory (crucial.com) or OWC (macsales.com).

    https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/Retina-5K2015/DDR3L

RAM should be relatively easy to install.

    Good Luck!

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I'm actually thrilled to hear you say this because my extra 16gb ram should be arriving any day now (which I have orders through MacSales btw).

Now I ask - should I add them as addition to my current 4+4gb ram?

Some Tell me it can even ruin the machine if not using the same size ram.

    Whats your take on this?

You just need to run RAM in identical size pairs.

It doesn't matter what the combination is as long as its a combination in pair of one size of RAM and another pair of another size of RAM.

That is the only real hard and fast requirements for installing and using more RAM.

So if I put them as 8+4 and 8+4 ram ... It's okay?

Or did you mean that only 8+8+8+8 or 4+4+4+4 etc can work?

two slots can have 2 identical sized pairs RAM

two other slots can have another sized pairs of RAM.

I am not sure of the order or how many slots of the 2015 iMac ( I thought only 4 slots), but whatever the slot order, slots 1 and 2 have the same sized RAM, slots 3 and 4 have another same sized pairs of RAM.

I think the slots are horizontal order

    So it's

    2x2

    4x4

    OR

    4x4

    2x2

    OR

    4x4

    8x8

    OR

    8x8

    4x4

    OR

    2x2

    8x8

    OR

    8x8

    2x2

OR all slots have identical sized RAM.

Watch the video link I posted to see how the RAM is installed, but I think same sized pairs are paired horizontally in the slots.

So, two lower slots, two upper slots.
