I have a question about iphone 7

My iphone 7 is fine, and I've not heard a single report of an iPhone 7 battery fire or explosion.

In these YouTube reviews, do the reviewers actually offer any numbers or proportion of shipped units with the problems their particular test unit experienced? YouTube subscriber numbers is not a real measure of credibility of the information, especially in a review of a single device out of many.

Apple ships millions of iPhones every quarter. Some of those will always experience issues as that is just a function of the law of large numbers. And the millions of happy iPhone 7 users are not the ones making videos and posting reviews, or posting at all since they have no issues. Quite honestly, you can find negative internet reviews for every single consumer product available in the world, and certainly for every single iPhone model every released. Yet clearly there are also many happy users of all of them - you just won't see them posting on the internet.

Hi. I have the 7 Plus but don't have any of the issues you're referring to. I upgraded from a 6 and was planning on upgrading to 6s Plus when my contract expired, which coincided with the release of the 7 Plus so I figured what the heck... I'll get the 7 Plus. It's a great phone, but since you seem willing to wait for something I'd recommend waiting until next year for the 8. I upgraded my wife's 6 to a 7 Plus also, but we're STILL waiting for that one to ship. The Rose Gold apparently is not available yet. 😟

Just because a YouTube channel has millions of subscribers doesn't say anything about its credibility. I'd consult the reviews on a site such as CNET.com. They don't especially like Apple so they tend to be a bit hard on them but, at least you can look at the ads and determine their biases. David Pogue is involved in the Yahoo tech site so I'd give it points for that.

I agree with Meg. If a reviewer is claiming they are getting products pre-formal release or directly from Apple, I would not beleive them. I've been using Apple products since the very early 1990's and worked at one time (for a decade) at a large university where the IT department was heavily into Apple hardware. I've never heard of Apple offering anyone products for review, and especially not before public release. They simply do not and never have done that.

And again, if someone is claiming a problem with their particular unit or units is systemic, they need to provide some actually statistics that is true. A reviewer buying their own units for review is just as likely to get a lemon as anyone else. So unless they can provide some numeric data of how wide spread the problem is or specifically tie it to a systemic manufacturing or design defect, I take their review with a large grain of salt.

WIth the Samsung Note 7 there are now reports of just what the problem there seems to be. The battery envelop as specifically designed for that particular device has issues in the specific Note 7 enclosure that makes the battery envelope highly prone to puncture/rupture, shorting the battery out internally which causes, instantly, an extremely exothermic reaction.

But some private reviewer, who makes their living driving subscribers to their channel or web site, with no actual data to support their claim of systemic issues or design or manufacturing flaws is not someone I consider terribly credible. People on the internet don't flock to sites reporting everything is fine and as it should be. They do charge en mass to sites that claim problems, issues, corporate conspiracies, big business rip-offs and so forth. So unless the reviewer has some real verifiable facts to back up their claims, I tend to dis-regard those making extreme claims, and the cynic in me tends to think they're simply generating controversy to drive profits at their site.

You of course must make up your own mind and decide what information is of value to you. Personally, I'll just say I am one very pleased iPhone 7 owner and user, with no issues or problems with my own personal iPhone 7.

I understand exactly how YouTube works. It's not clear you do. As long as you don't violate someone else's intellectual property rights or get downright obscene, you can post pretty much anything you want. Google doesn't vet things to make sure they're actually true.

I am very familiar with how YouTube commercial channels work. And yes, I have seen many on there of many Apple products. Some companies do give products for review, even pre-release. Apple, however, has never done that to my knowledge. And yes, some YouTube channels generate 6+ figure incomes for their owners so they indeed do have massive amounts of capital to invest in pursuing their YouTube channel content. Spending tens of thousand on products to review could indeed be a reasonable investment for such channel owners, given the return they may generate.

Again though, regardless of how they came by their products or whatever they post, it's an N of one or at best a very small relative few unless they can show compelling evidence that it is more widespread then their test devices and is actually evidence of a systemic and common problem.

Any reviewer of any product, and regardless of personal credibility, posting a review of a problem is nothing more than a single complainer if they cannot show any serious evidence of a more common problem. I can find at least one negative review of every cell phone, let alone smart phone, ever produced. Without evidence it's a systematic issue, its just one more person complaining about their device.

You seem compelled by these YouTube reviewers, so go ahead and base your decisions off them. It's your choice to do so. Everyone is free to decide as they wish, based on what they wish.

I never thought you were anti-Apple per se. But I for one don't believe much of what I see on YouTube either. YouTube is about generating income for youtube posters and channel owners, not about providing consumer product services. Regular posters on YouTube are there because of the income they get from the effort, not about providing consumer services for sound purchasing choices. Just my take, but I've seen no compelling evidence to the contrary.

You must not know much about how this community works if you expected there to be feedback on your question.

Looking to have someone here debate or validate a YouTube "review" would not fit into the mandate of the community, IMO.

I don't feel you stepped on anyone's shoes. You asked for opinions about potential issues with iPhone 7's and presented the reasons why you had those concerns. I at least have not experienced those issues, and said so, and disagreed with the basis and source for your conclusions. But I wasn't offended and I did not mean to offend. I just don't agree with your sources as a basis for not buying an iPhone 7 if someone wants one, nor as presenting evidence of an actual design flaw with the iPhone 7.
