Weird Sonar sound from apple watch...what is it?

Periodically with no notification or anything else on the screen I get a "sonar" kind of sound on my watch and a little haptic feedback but I don't see a notification or anything else on the watch. It isn't a ghost thing because it happened the other night and my wife also heard it from my watch. What is that?

Hi

Possible sources include:

Mail:

  • Check your Mail settings for each account:
    • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data - check settings per account.
  • Check your notification alert settings for email:
    • For example, on your iPhone:
      • Go to: Settings > Notifications > Mail > VIP > Sounds > check sound and vibration alert settings..
      • Also check under Settings > Notifications > Mail > iCloud.
    • Check the corresponding setting on your watch:
      • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > Mail (this may be set to Mirror my iPhone or to custom settings).

An app:

  • You may have installed an app that issues notifications, with settings that Allow Notifications with sound alerts, but without other options also being enabled (eg Show in Notification Centre, Badge App Icon, Show on Lock Screen).
  • Check though the settings for each installed app in Settings > Notifications.
