iPhone won't sync with iTunes after iOS 10 .0.2update

I updated my iPhone 6 with the newest iOS 10 software. When I plug my phone into my macbook it says "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone “rabi3 iPhone” because an invalid response was received from the device. I have updated my macbook and iTunes, restarted all devices, tried different usb ports etc. Is anyone else having this problem?

Other people are having this problem--this is apparent if you search this forum. The overwhelming majority of the issues are due to running an non-current version of iTunes. Are you running iTunes 12.5.1? Which version are you running? What version of Mac OS are you running on your computer?
