Q: Siri doesn't work on MBA 2015

Hello everyone!

 

A few months ago, i've bought myself a new MBA 2015 with 4 GB Ram. Then Sierra was released and I installed it. At this point Siri worked perfectly. But since a week or so it doesn't work anymore. I've checked the settings, but everythings ok there. When i activate Siri, it seems like the microphone doesn't work or something, because it just shows the microphone icon but no colorful sine curve. And i can't ask anything because it looks like Siri isn't recording.

 

Since I've installed Sierra nothing changed on my mac. The only thing thats new is that I've bought office for mac 2011 which works fine. Its really frustrating that Siri won't work. I hope that anyone in this community can help me to solve this problem.

    Hello Kalbatros, 

    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. 

    I see that you are having issues with Siri not hearing you on your new MacBook Air. Have you tested your microphone with other applications? If the microphone isn't working on other applications either, then let us know and we will look at that issue. 

    Assuming that it is just with Siri as you describe, then take a look at the following support article: Use Siri on your Mac

    Specifically the "Get help" section at the bottom.

    Hey sterling,

     

    thank you for your help. I tested the microphone by recording a vocal in garageband and it worked just fine. If plugged in my earphones and tested their microphone too, but Siri won't work. If i open Siri, only the microphone icon pops up, but it doesnt recognize my voice and when i click on the microphone icon nothing happens...

     

    When i open the microphone settings, everything is right an i can see the microphone signal. I think that it has something to do with Siri..

    Hi Kalbatros,

    OK, it does look like the microphone itself works. Were you able to try the steps from the Siri support article? Especially the microphone selection in Siri preferences.
