Q: Sending text with Siri

When I send text from the Watch using Siri, it used to work. Now, it will send using SMS, and not actually getting sent out.

Previously, here's what I do: "Hey Siri, Send text to Jim how's it going". Jim is a known contact with iPhone that can receive iMessage (blue). When I look at my iPhone, the text is sent with green bubble, and recipient does not receive it. No error on my end.

When I send the person a new text from my iphone, it goes iMessage (blue), and recipient gets it.

I didn't use to have this issue, I'm not sure if this is caused by 2 Factor Authentication that I recently enabled.

Do you have 2 factor authentication, and can send iMessage from the watch using Siri?

I'm using iPhone 7 ios 10.0.2, and Apple Watch 1st gen watchOS 3.

iPhone 7, iOS 10.0.2

    Hi

The following steps may help (check after each):

    • On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch > General > Reset > tap once on Reset Sync Data.
      • Nothing will seem to happen, but the process will run in the background / invisibly to you, so allow some time afterwards for it to complete.

    • On your iPhone, in Settings > Messages - turn off iMessage at the top of the screen, pause for a few moments, then re-enable it.

    • On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Siri - disable, pause for a few moments and then re-enable Siri.

I've done General > Reset on the Apple Watch, I also have done Erase all settings and restore as new on the iPhone 7. I did deregister my phone number, turning on/off iMessage.

I support Macs devices at work, so I've done pretty much all the basic troubleshooting steps. This issue seems to be two factor, which I'll disable and see if this works.

When asking questions here, to avoid a duplication of effort, it is best to explain, at the outset, any steps that you have already tried.

I have no issue sending messages via iMessage from my watch when using two-factor authentication.

Given the steps that you have already tried, if you require further assistance, I suggest that you contact Apple Support or make a Genius Bar reservation:
