Q: photo app on my Mac Pro

Starting September 22, the organizing photos by date in the Memory section quit working. All the rest  of the functions do. Any ideas on how to fix this. I already did a "soft re-boot". I know that a while back I was having a "maps" problem, and corrected it by removing the phish setting under "library preferences". Might I do this with the Apple photo app?

This is what is no long working

we can not really help with "quit working" - we need details and symptoms - what exactly is not working ans what is happening

What version of the OS and of Photos do you have? You state Yosemite which is far out of date - the current software is OS X Sierra 10.12 and if you are not up to date that would be the first step to take - backup prior to any upgrade

Hi Larry, and thanks for replying. I am not that great with 'trouble shooting' some  types of problems, so please bare with me....The attached photo above explains what view in photo does. Well it's not doing that any more(separating by date taken, etc. Another words, the last time it placed any photos in that icon/window was on Sept 21st. It would lists photos by day date taken and group those photos under that particular date when I downloaded from my camera or iPhone 6s. All functions of the photo program i.e. sharing, email, all photos, creating albums etc, work just fine and all photos taken load and appear in the "all photos" just not "photo" icon in top left.

You are correct. I am running Yosemite and when uploaded it replaced iPhoto with photo....I have not upgraded due to the computer is a refurb 2011 and would not handle El Captain. Only 4GB of memory so it won't run the latest and greatest.

    Two likely possibilites

1 - incorrect dates - easy for a camera but not so easy for an iPhone - to check dates right click on a photo in All Photos that is not in Moments and show in moments - the moments window should open with your photo showing - if it does you probably can figure out what is going on

2 - corrupted library - if moments opens and your photo is not shown then backup yoru library and hold down the option adn command keys while launching Photos and repair your library - this will trigger a new total upload to iCloud Photo Library if you are using it

Good idea about the dates! checked both the camera and phone. Took a photo with the camera loaded it automatically to photos app....and still did not list or show photo in "photos moment" section...so that must not be it. So now to move on to the "corrupt library" suggestion. Thank you, Jim

Did check the dates with no change from "all photos" to "photos". Photos was doing what it's was suppose to do up to the 21 Sept! and hasn't organized a photo is that section since. I have taken approx. 80 photos since that date, downloaded, and they all showed up in "all photos" as usual but not "photos'(moments)....

Going to now dig into the library and may have to take this back up tomorrow......
