Oct 16, 2016 6:59 AM in response to gdgmacguyby TarnAlistair,Thaanks for the reply, tried the solution, no change! What I really need is to go back to the previous version of IOS (9.?.?). Spoken to several Iphone users who are all put out by the changes. 2nd alert for calendar events has also gone. It's a disaster. Is it possible for the likes of me to go back to a previous s/w level?

Oct 16, 2016 7:03 AM in response to TarnAlistairby FelipeV,Downgrading is not supported and never has been. And even if you could, that is no guarantee that it will solve your problem.
You either have a hardware problem with the battery or you have corrupted software and the only way to solve that is to restore as NEW (and NOT from a backup) and then re download fresh copies of your apps and synch your digital content.

Oct 20, 2016 9:36 AM in response to FelipeVby TarnAlistair,Apple Support checked out the battery and said it was in fine shape. Went and restored as new and STILL it chews up the battery - so much so that the phone is almost unusable. The thing that frustrates me is that the only change since it operated satisfactorily has been the updating to IOS 10.0.2. What is it doing to use up so much battery in standby?

Oct 20, 2016 1:11 PM in response to TarnAlistairby FelipeV,Try running it a couple of days without installing any apps. If the battery holds, then the problem is with some app(s) that are causing battery degradation.
As has already been stated: you cannot downgrade.
