Apple Watch Series 2 Built in GPS

Does the new built in GPS allow us to use the watch as a stand alone golf gps device, without having to have your phone nearby?

Yes, the GPS of the series 2 Watch is independent of the phone.

GPS is only active when you select a workout that would use GPS. Like walking outdoors but not when swimming laps in an indoor pool.

To see details of the recorded GPS-tracked route you need to display it on your phone

I will give it a try but it looks like it works from my home, when I use it in test mode.
