I used to be able to see a preview of a CSV file just by pressing the spacebar..
Now it only shows me the icon, filename, file size and last modified date and time..
iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), macOS Sierra (10.12)

Does it work in safe mode? See Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up - Apple Support (yes even though your Mac starts up ok).
If you create a new user account, does it work there?
I restarted the iMac and it works as usual now.. By the way, thanks for the information, will try it when it behaves strangely again.
