Q: Migrate from Sierra ver 10.12

Hello there,

My current iMac is making hard drive noise.  I guess 5 years is enough.

I only have (2) softwares on this computer.  Microsoft office, QuickBook 2012.

Questions:

1) How do I migrate the whole MS Office to the new iMac?  Flood took all of our disks...and this software suite is quite $$$.

2) When I start quickbooks 2012, I get message “You can't use this version of the application "Quickbook 2012" with this version of macOS.”  Once I have migrated the MS office, can I revert this iMac to an older macOS version so I can get into Quickbooks to backup all my invoices?

I currently do have a time machine on the iMac.

Thank you for your help.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

There is no reason to upgrade to Sierra if you are unable to use your software unless there are upgrades compatible with Sierra. If you drive is failing, then I recommend you make backups as quickly as possible. If you use Time Machine then be sure you are backing up the entire drive, and that your backup drive has sufficient space. Then arrange to replace the disk drive if it has failed.

Reverting from a current version of OS X to an earlier version requires erasing the drive entirely, then installing the older version. For that, you will need a full installer for the earlier version. You will be able to create a bootable USB flash drive from the installer so you can install on a fresh, new drive. Depending on how old the computer is you may be able to use Network Install that does not require the installer file nor a USB flash drive.
