Q: how to download photos using the icloud control panel for windows

Hello,

I want to clean out all of the photos on both my iPhone 5c and my 4th gen iPad.  I have a Windows 10 laptop with TONS of HD space and I have the iCloud control panel installed.  I have tried opening the CP and doing the process to download "All Photos" by putting a check mark in the "all" check box but all that seems to happen is the window closes out after I click the "OK" button.  I cannot monitor the status of the DL to see how it is progressing or even when it is finished.  My goal is to empty all the photos from my devices to make room on my iPhone and iPad and to also have a clean start with photos so I don't have to flip through hundreds of photos (in case you can't tell by the fact that I've got a 4th Gen iPad - I have had it for a looooonnnggg time hence the hundreds of photos).  Can anyone help please?

Thank you,

Wonder Woman

If your goal is to "empty all the photos from my devices to make room on my iPhone and iPad", then if you do that you will also delete the photos from iCloud as well.  You will have to download all of the photos from iCloud to your PC's desktop folder (you created), PC's hard drive, or an external hard drive.

That is exactly what I want to do - put them on my Windows 10 laptop HD in a folder I have that is linked to my DropBox account.  My goal is to start out with zero photos on both of my Apple devices.

My situation was that I was able to find the iCloud control panel and use the "download" feature/function but I cannot tell how to follow the status of the process to see when it completes.  Once I click on the button to start the DL process the window closes and there's nothing open that allows me to follow the status of the process.  How can I do that?

Can you not see the photos being downloaded at its destination, e.g. a folder?

I found a folder called "downloaded" - I have gone ahead and moved & emptied the photos out to a specific new folder in my DropBox that I called Downloaded from iCloud Oct 2016.  Now how do I empty the iCloud of all the photos?

Once all the photos are safely downloaded in Dropbox, go ahead and delete them from iCloud.
