Notification Center displays same message multiple times (hundreds)

Since upgrading to macOS Sierra, when the Notification Center receives a notification it displays correctly the message, but in the Center itself the same message is displayed multiple times (hundreds). For example, a notification from Facebook would appear once with an occurence x 400. I changed the display setting to Alert, and now it displays on the screen once, but in the Notification Center it is displayed many times (see image below).

Is this a setting or configuration problem, or a bug?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12), 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5; 16 GB RAM

Mine too, but usually more like 129 copies, or 134 copies. I reboot my computer every day, so it's not a cache issue.

Hi!

If your Notification center is loading multiple duplicate notifications for the same app, try signing out then back into your Facebook application and restart your Mac. You may also want to try booting up into safe mode.

What is safe mode?

Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks, and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. Starting your Mac in safe mode does the following:

Verifies your startup disk, and attempts to repair directory issues if needed

Loads only required kernel extensions

Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

Disables user-installed fonts

Deletes font caches, Kernel cache and other system cache files

Together, these changes can help resolve or isolate issues related to your startup disk.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up

This should have your notifications coming in normally. Have a great day.

Rubbish interface, Apple. No not solved. Was trying to select another response as there is an arrow as if there is a drop down list, but in fact no other possible response result is displayed and "solved" was selected and registered automatically. There is no way to change it 😠

Tried all, including safe boot (which didn't find any problems).

Note, it seems to be specific to Facebook notifications.

Mine is doing similar things... I just had 48 copies of the same notification. I've turned off FB notifications and cleared all of them, but after that--48x the notification. I'm on Sierra, and on a 15-inch MBP Retina 2.5Ghz.
