I have a 2017 Honda accord w/o navigation. I recently purchased an iPhone7. I have paired the phone to the car's bluetooth..."16AHU". I would like to use apple maps and/or google maps and get navigation prompts over the car speakers

I want to be able to have the prompts just interrupt the music and then go back to the music. Haven't figured out how to do this and Honda Dealer says no one has asked them the ??? before. I can use Apple Car Play, but that does not let me use XM radio, AM or FM the same time. I have followed what Wonder How to web site suggested. Didn't work. 😕 Looking forward to your answer.

Thank you Bob K

1. You first need to turn on Siri:

a. Settings

b. Siri

c. Turn on Siri

d. Activate "Access when locked"

2. Then plug in your phone into the usb port below the temperature control unit

3. On your radio unit, go to "Home" -> "Smartphone Connection"

4. To access this in the future, it will show up as "Apple Carplay".

Unfortunately only Apple Maps will be functional. No Google maps for now

I have a Honda CR-V and I stumbled upon the solution one day. You'll need to be in the car and connected to Bluetooth - and of course should not be driving. Tune to a radio station and then open maps and choose a destination to drive to and start the navigation. At the bottom you should see your arrival time, minutes, miles (or km) and End. You'll notice a bar above those items, swipe up and you should see six icons. Select Audio and under output you'll see an option Allow HFP Prompts under 16AHU. Turn that on and now the navigation prompts will play over the music. The music actually goes to a low volume so you can hear the prompt and then the music resumes at its normal volume level. I have tested this with Apple Music, AM/FM radio, and Pandora.
