    Have your carrier disable voicemail.

according to the Verizon site, they can't turn it off.  they claim it's from Apple.....  so, 2 hours into this quest, and i am getting nowhere.

As with jcmueller376, I can't get this shut off.  The delay in transcription is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE - especially when it's something I don't care about or am interested in. I do not want this on my phone - how do we get this resolved?

It isn't by yelling at us.

This is a volunteer run community.  Apple DOES NOT offer technical support here.

It has been resolved here in other threads that carriers can indeed turn off voicemail as a solution to this issue.

Otherwise, call Apple Support or give feedback here.

If your carrier won't turn it off, you'll have to live with it. Nothing says you have to use it, though. Most carriers will still allow you to call into the voicemail system and listen the old fashioned way.

Hi, I started this discussion.  I just finished a 'chat' with apple support.  apparently there is no way to turn it off within the apple software.  Verizon does not give me an option to turn it off at My Verizon, so it appears that i have to live with it....

next phone may be an Android.

Unfortunately, choice is not an option here.  Unless you've experienced it yourself, you wouldn't necessarily know that when your voicemail message gets lost in "transcription", the voicemail message itself is not available.  I won't bore you with the details, but it took 47.5 hours to receive a voicemail that was stuck in "transcription" - no audio available & no message.  Really? We're talking about a very basic phone service. Apple messed up with this one.

Have you tried accessing your voice mail by calling into your voicemail by dialing *86?
