Why does my iMac 12  27" running OS 10.12.0 and the previous version stop during startup with a spinning ball during log in, but only after I logged out earlier.  It never has the problem if I had Shutdown earlier instead of logging out.

No key on the keyboard as any effect during the hang up.  I have run all the diagnostics and Disk "First Aid" check.  I have sent numerous copies of the trouble message to Apple with no response.

This has been going on since at least May, 2016, when I replace half the memory due to finding it bad looking for the problem.

Easy, uninstall the antivirus app you have installed per the developers instructions AND never install any cleaning, AV, or any other type of "maintenance app" again. OS X DOES NOT need it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do that and your problem is likely solved.

Thankyou rkaufmann87!  Your help has led me to a fix I think.  I removed all old Adobe Flash, etc. files and the problem seems to be cured.  I may have deleted an old Norton file also, all with the help of you and EtreCheck.
