I have an older ipod nano and I just downloaded iTunes to my laptop (first time on this pc) but it does no allow me to select a device. I want to download the songs from my nano to this laptop. an you help me, please?

It's not clear what that means...
When you connect iPod to computer's USB port (with iTunes running), watch iPod's screen. Does it say "Do not disconnect" or "Connected" or give other indication of a data connection? Or, does it only show the battery charging symbol? Or, does it not react at all to being connected?
It said do not disconnect. It finally connected so I'm not sure what was going on.
