Q: Home Sharing constant buffering
Home Sharing is seven (7) years old now created in 2009 with iTunes 9. To this day the software is buggy as ever when used with iOS.
System setup: newest Mac Mini 2014 unibody running latest OS (Sierra), newest Apple TV 4th gen, newest Airport Exteme (5th gen), iPhone 5s latest iOS 10, iPad Air 2 latest iOS.
All devices connect to the same network, and have home Sharing enabled. The Mac Mini is gigabit Ethernet connected to the Airport, and the Apple TV as well. Now, the Apple TV has never had issues doing home sharing music, videos, etc. Any iOS device on wifi has ALWAYS had issues using Home Sharing.
On iOS 9 you would see your "Name's Library" and select it and the little blue loading circle would always get hung half way. Only solution was to log out of home sharing and then sometimes library would load. With iOS 10 Apple seems to have fixed that problem and good thing since two factor turned on logging in and out is a pain.
Now on iOS 10 your "Name's Library" loads fairly quickly but once all of the music and movie art load, you tap on a movie or TV show to play, it buffers for 5 minutes and then MAYBE starts to play. If you are lucky the video will play for 5 seconds before pausing, buffering and then flashing back to your "Name's Library" screen.
Sounds Iike wifi latency right? Ok, close Apples Video app on iOS and start streaming Netflix or Amazon video no issues.
Apple please fix Home Sharing on iOS! Why is this such a big deal? Well everyone's favorite monopoly Comcast is starting to roll bandwidth caps on everyone and streaming video and music without paying more $ is going to start forcing everyone to start storing music and movies on their home network and running their own NAS.
Thanks
iPad Air, iOS 9.2, Air 2
