Q: safari email

My Safari email receives but will not send.  My primary email account seems to have disappeared .  When I try ti send from it I get the following:

This message could not be sent. It will remain in your Outbox until it can be sent.

This message could not be sent because your account does not have a preferred outgoing mail server. Select an outgoing mail server from the list below.  However there is no list! I can send from the account on my iPad, therefore mu provider side os ok.  When I try to add it to my accounts list, I get the message that the account already exists.  If I use Chrome and sign in to my account I can can send, so the problem seems to be in the Safari email some where.  Any suggestions?

Safari is a web browser not an E-Mail client. You must be using some type of web based e-mail system such as G-Mail or Yahoo mail. Please re-write your post so it makes sense.

I understand that Safari is a web browser.  I'm talking about the email program that comes with my apple system. I assumed that it is using Safari to retrieve my email since I can go directly to my provider, Centurylink, to be able to send email from this machine.  Can't send through the regular email that I have used for years on this machine directly.

The E-Mail app that comes with a Mac is called Mail, it does NOT rely on Safari in any way to send or receive E-Mail. If you cannot send or receive E-Mail from the Mail app then something is wrong likely wrong with a setting in the Mail app. I don't understand what you mean by "Can't send through the regular email that I have used for years on this machine directly."I have no idea what you mean by "regular e-mail", please be more specific.

Mac OS Mail 9.3  on my machine will not send.  Just started a few days ago.  When I try to send I get the following message: This message could not be sent because your account does not have a preferred outgoing mail server. Select an outgoing mail server from the list below.  However there is no list!  I can't figure out what it is telling me.  .   I tried going into Time Machine to the beginning of the month and selecting Mail from applications .  Get the message that it can't be deleted or modified as it is needed by OS.  So looks like a trip to the Genius Bar!

This is normally an easy fix, it means simply going to Mail - Preferences - select the account and then re-input the setting even if they look correct. Sometimes they can become corrupted and re-inputting the information solves the problem. If that does not take care of it, then restart in Safe Mode and then restart normally and re-test.
