Mouse or keyboard won't wake os 10.12 from prolonged sleep. Resetting SMC and NVRAM hasn't helped.

Wired or Bluetooth?
It's a Blue Tooth mouse. Also, pressing the power button doesn't wake up the computer as it should. The power button has to be held down for about 10 seconds and then the computer reboots and eventually opens the screen it would have if simply woke up.
I should also note the the computer wakes up normally if it has only been sleeping for a short time. The problem occurs only if I have left the computer sleeping over a prolonged period of time.
Please verify the following setting in System Preferences > Bluetooth > Advanced: "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer".
If it is already selected, de-select it and click OK. Then, click Advanced again, and re-select it.
Test. You may need to repeat the NVRAM or SMC reset.
De-selecting and then re-selecting "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" seems to have corrected the problem. So thanks!

Just to let you know that there was no solution that really worked - after I had to unplug and restart the computer to get it to wake up I gave up and switched back to OS 10.11.
