Q: iCloud Drive Mystery Storage Usage

Hello everybody, I recently received a notification from Apple that my iCloud storage was running out. This seemed odd to me since I recently had an entire GB left. When troubleshooting I came across the output below... as you can see the iCloud Drive folder shows that it uses 1.67GB, but the total of all of the folders inside of it adds up to nowhere near that. I'm confused as can be and if anyone can provide an explanation it would be amazing.

It would appear that with the recent download of the new macOS Sierra, that your documents are being moved into the Desktop & Documents folder which is one of the newest features.

In the System Preferences > iCloud check the "Options" for iCloud Drive.  Your screenshot is showing that you are about to upload your Desktop and and your Documents folder, as zinacef pointed out. Disable this, if you do not want to sign up for a larger iCloud storage plan.

I had a more serious problem of the same kind. If you have been deleting files from iCloud drive with Finder you need to empty the trash after deleting the files. There is a hidden trash file in the iCloud drive that can fill up with un- emptied trash.
