An unauthorised third-party may be sending messages via your account (if so, these may be sent via iMessage and/or as chargeable messages via your carrier plan).
Follow the steps here, including changing your Apple ID password immediately (choose a strong password that you do not use anywhere else) and ideally also setting up either two-step verification or two-factor authentication:
