I'm afraid that no-one here can tell you anything about Apple's unannounced plans (this is a user-based technical support community).

When recording an Outdoor Walk workout using the built-in Workout app, Apple Watch Series 2 can track your walk via its built-in GPS without needing the paired iPhone to be taken along.

After the workout, once the devices have reconnected, the workout will be synced automatically to the Activity app on the paired iPhone, where the workout summary - including the route map - can be viewed via the Workouts tab. The workout will then remain stored in the Activity app.

From there, the map can be shared as an image, including via Mail, Messages and adding to Notes. It is not presently possible via the built-in apps to export the route or GPS data.

The route is shown on a map (the same format as the Map option, rather than Satellite, in Maps), including options to rotate the map and to pan and zoom.

Line colour indicates your pace throughout the workout (green being fastest, red being slowest).
