Oct 15, 2016 11:48 PM in response to Golnar.Sby gail from maine,Is your device running iOS 10? If so, what version of iTunes are you running? You must be running 12.5 or higher in order to sync with iOS 10 devices. 12.5 iTunes requires an OS X of 10.9.5 or later.
Best of luck,

Oct 16, 2016 6:47 AM in response to Golnar.Sby Limnos,Are you running iTunes 7.5.1 or newer? Download update --> https://support.apple.com/HT201352
What about your computer OSX version?
iOS 10 requires iTunes 12.5.1 or newer which in turn requires OSX 10.9.5 or newer. Software Update only checks for updates for the current system version you are running but that itself may be out of date. It may or may not be possible to upgrade your computer to the required system. Find your computer model on the http://www.everymac.com web site and near the bottom of the system specification section it will say what OS versions it is capable of running. If you cannot run a newer system you will not be able to sync this phone to your present computer, though some features may be available with iCloud services such as Apple Music or Match. OSX 10.9 and 10.10 are no longer available. Check this article on El Capitan (OSX 10.11) and Sierra (OSX 10.12) upgrade options https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-10692 These systems may run slower on older machines and require additional RAM purchase (4 GB is a realistic minimum and many recommend 8GB). Doing a big jump in system versions is also more likely to affect old software.
Snow leopard to el capitan, will it cause my macbook to be slow? - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7412959
Current OSX general upgrade information, including system requirements - http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/
If you have any PPC generation software that has been running under OSX 10.6 it will not be supported under any later system versions.

Oct 19, 2016 6:25 AM in response to Golnar.Sby Limnos,The message you posted is one most people get because they are not running the newest iTunes version. If you are using Software Update to check if you have up to date software it could, as I have already posted, be reporting inaccurate information. Software Update will only check for updates to the present operating system you are using. If you are using an older system it will not know that and will think you are up to date because it cannot find anything newer for that operating system version.

Oct 19, 2016 11:41 AM in response to Golnar.Sby Limnos,You need to tell us the actual version numbers you have installed. You are not responding to our repeated requests you tell us which versions of OSX and iTunes you have installed. As I have said twice already, Software Update will inform you that you have the "latest" installed but if you do not have a newer OSX version (which Software Update won't look for; YOU have to do that) then you can update until you are blue in the face and it won't get you the iTunes version you need. Right now without those actual version numbers we are guessing.
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac". Write down, or highlight and copy, what it says about "version"and report that here. Now continue to "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).

Oct 19, 2016 1:24 PM in response to Golnar.Sby ChrisJ4203,To be honest, that is the first time that you provided the answer.
Your problem is easy to identify now. Your OS X is too old, you need 10.9.5 or above.
Your iTunes is too old, you need 12.5.1. You need to update.

Oct 19, 2016 1:28 PM in response to Golnar.Sby Limnos,You do not need to answer it again because that is the first time you have posted that information (check you past posts).
Read my first response, sentence by sentence, slowly. Your iTunes version is too old. You cannot upgrade to the required iTunes because your OSX is too old. Sotware Update is saying you are up to date because you are up to date as far as iTunes versions you can run under that OSX version, but your OSX version is not up to date. Software Update does not check for that. That is why we have been asking you for that information but guessing (correctly) that was the problem. You may or may not be able to upgrade your OSX depending upon the age of your computer (information we do not yet have but you can do self-service looking at the link I provided). If you cannot upgrade your OSX then you can no longer use your phone with your computer.

Oct 19, 2016 8:48 PM in response to Limnosby Golnar.S,Thanks for your response and the solution.
I did post that answer because I actually copied and pasted it again from the previous answer.
At any rate it appears my computer can not be updated and as a result I can not sync my phone anymore.
