Apple music and non-eligible items

Hi

I'm surprised I couldn't find a proper answer to that question, which I believed would be pretty common.

- I have a collection of music files including a few that I have created myself

- I have decided to give apple music a try and added a few items to my playlist

- I have a recent mac and a recent iPhone, both with the latest versions of software available

- During the initial matching process, iTunes marked some of my files as "non-eligible" for uploading.

Now it seems that I cannot have my entire library on my iPhone:

- if I enable the iTunes library on the phone, all other files are deleted from the phone and I lose access to my "non-eligible" items

- if I disable the iTunes library on the phone, I lose access to all the music from apple music that I'm paying for as part of my subscription.

Question: Is this the normal behaviour or have I missed something and there is a way I can simultaneously have on my phone both the "non-eligible" and the "purchased" files?

Thanks!

iPhone SE, iOS 10.0.2, OSX 10.11, iTunes 12.5

Hi alexvhk,

Thanks for your question. I don't know how many of your songs have an ineligible status for uploading to iCloud Music Library, but you are correct, you can't have them on your iPhone with Apple Music / iCloud Music Library enabled. I would suggest trying to address the reason for the ineligible status, and seeing if you can adjust the file somehow.

iCloud Status

The statuses in the iCloud Status column can help you figure out if a song was purchased from the iTunes Store, added from Apple Music, matched with iTunes Match, uploaded, or something else.

Ineligible: Your computer isn't authorized to play this song or the file type can't be added to iCloud Music Library. A song might be ineligible if it wasn't purchased from the iTunes Store or was purchased using a different Apple ID, or if the song file is larger than 200 MB, is longer than two hours, or was encoded at 96 Kbps or less.

A song containing DRM that was purchased with a different Apple ID and couldn't be matched won't upload to iCloud Music Library.

If you have iCloud Drive enabled on your iPhone, you might try copying one of the music files (especially a song you've created) from your computer to iCloud Drive (Option + Drag) and then see if you can access/play it on your iPhone.
