iPhone 6 not syncing with itunes or iphoto due to password lock

Hi. I have an iPhone 6 running the latest software and am trying to back up the photos to iPhoto '09 which is running 8.1.02.

Every time I plug the phone into the usb iPhoto says:

"Photos in the camera roll cannot be viewed or imported because the iPhone is locked with a passcode"

I unlock the phone and still nothing happens. I try restarting iPhoto with the phone unlocked and it still doesn't work.

iTunes (11.4) says something similar when I plug the phone in:

"iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an invalid response was recieved from the phone"

I've tried restarting my MacBook and the iPhone but nothing seems to work.

Can you access the images with Image Capture (in the Applications Folder)?

The same message. I have the system Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5, I think this is the problem. I have an old iMac, 2010. I should install the captain system. Installing a new system.. you know I want to work on my old Photoshop.. Time consuming these updates.. The solution is to buy a new iMac, or a macbook just to download my photos, god(!)

You think iOS 10.1.1 is compatible with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5? Apple said that was the problem..

Have you figured out how to resolve this issue yet? I just found I have the same problem. Old Mac, old OS, old versions of iTunes and iPhoto, but upgraded iPhone.

Is this Apple's way of forcing us to buy new computers? I, too, basically only use my computer for photo editing. The programs work but the phone is locked? Why?
