Itunes Cloud Download Not Working on Macbook Air

I recently changed the email address on my apple ID and I went to set up itunes on my macbook air, that's all signed in ok. But in Itunes all my previous purchases have the little cloud download symbol but when I click to download the music it does nothing, it won't even play any of my purchases.
