how do i equalize the volume of the songs in my music library

There is a dramatic volume difference in the songs from my music library. I use the "sound check" I'm preferences but that doesn't appear to do anything. Is there any way to equalize the music better?

Hi elbourdo,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Sorry to hear that you are having these volume issues in iTunes. You are correct that the Sound Check function in iTunes should normalize the volumes across songs. You may want to double-check the info outlined in the following article, in particular the portion on what file formats Sound Check works with:

Also, if the issue appears to be limited to a certain set of songs, you may want to check the individual volume settings for those songs, as noted here:

iTunes for Windows: Adjust the volume

Regards.
