Get rid of task bar on iPad home screen

I would like to eliminate the strip that acts as a task bar on the home screen of my iPad Air 2. I don't use it and don't need it but it is intrusive. Is it possible to delete it altogether? I am running iOS10.

iPad Air, iOS 10.0.2

I went to settings. When settings opened I typed in “dock”. My search led me to “ Dock and multitasking” which I simply tap on and was led the site ( dock and multitasking).

at that site, there were 4 options. Top of page was multitasking - I turned that one off. 2nd and 3rd l turned one off and one on. I ‘ll have to go back and see which? This is a problem with turning multitasking off- I may have to turn it back on. The 4th item was the dock. Whatever it said i turned it off. Oh, I just remembered the middle one I turned off- it had something to do with voices from videos staying on even when you have closed the app. I hope this helps. The “taskbar stays on the menu ( home) screen, but not when you’re working in another app. I have a new iPad Pro with all upgrade up to date. Hope this helps.
