Q: My Email is resending and not functional.

Hi. I use Apple email on Mac El Capitan on A Macbook Pro. Mail used to work fine until 3 weeks ago, when I tried to send a message to someone. On the left bottom of mail it said sending message. Then it disappeared and I thought it was sent, but then the compose new email screen popped up with the message I wrote and it was resending. I click on the red close button and it closed but then it popped back up and said sending message again. Then it disappeared and showed again and said resending. This kept repeating. Please help. I really need to use my email. It's really important. It is not Functional anymore!!
Thanks in Advance

    Hi Apple Jr.,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding that the Mail app repeatedly tries to send messages. I use Mail daily, it's extremely important to me that it work as expected. I can understand your concern. I'm happy to help.

First, I recommend testing this issue in safe mode. Starting up in safe mode allows your Mac to run certain checks, delete cache, and prevent startup items from launching. Follow these steps to start in safe mode:
    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
    3. Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

If an issue doesn't happen when your Mac is started in safe mode, try restarting again without pressing any keys at startup. If the issue appears to be resolved when you start up normally, it was possibly caused by a cache or a directory issue with your startup disk that safe mode fixed.

If you restart your Mac normally and an issue comes back when you reach your desktop, try disabling any login items that automatically open when you log in.

Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up

If the issue persists in safe mode, it's possible user settings or files are the cause. Try testing this issue in another user account. Use the link below for assistance:

If you continue to have issues, let us know if this occurs with multiple email accounts.

    Have an amazing day!
