Q: My new iMac27

Former Apple employee from decades ago, been doing lots of Windows programming... getting fed up with Microsoft so I spent the past 2 years saving for an iMac so I could get involved in the xCode side of things. I finally had enough to get a refurbished late 2015 unit, retina display system. So excited, yes? Woohoo..

It arrived about 2 weeks ago, and I've been doing a little playing and configuring, grabbed xcode and the latest OS, etc.. I also have an external 32 inch TV running off an HDMI adapter, and it all looks pretty awesome if I do say so. But of course, sadly, I've been having some issues right out of the box.

The initial "free setup support" was a joke. 20 minutes, being reminded every 5 minutes that time was running down, and other than setting up the mouse for 'right click' stuff, nothing was accomplished. I was passed off to another Apple Support person to deal with sound and screen issues, and they could provide no answers so I was passed off to someone "higher".

if I start QuickTime on the external monitor, it opens on the main machine. I have to drag it across to the external and have to resize it because its way out of wack. When I start a video, both the video and audio played on the external, which I liked, because of sound issues. When that video is over and I play another one, I have to repeat the above process. Very awkward.

The sound on the main machine is wonderful... but there is no tone control. Being an older person I am having hearing issues and the deep bass thundering is useless. Low and behold, I am told that I have to "buy an app for that" because 'there is an app for everything'. SIGH.

I spent over 2 grand to get this machine. I have no additional funds to spare, and I don't have a credit card to "buy" something... especially something that should be included as a default in the OS. I hunted and found this "soundflower" thing but I can not get it to work on this machine, I then found "eqMac" which seemed to work... except it ported the sound to the main machine instead of the external HDMI connection (that previously worked without issues). Setting the sound manually to the external screen brought that back (kind of) except I don't always turn on the external screen. eqMac also crashed several times so I ended up uninstalling it. Now of course, the sound isn't working right on the external like it did before.

Audio is critical to me. For Apple to not supply something for basic tone control is a huge failure. My windows box is 1/3 the price and I can adjust audio there. When I bought this machine online, it said "free shipping, free returns". Unless I can get this sorted out without having to put out more money that I don't have, I will return it.

Suggestions?   Thanks kindly in advance.
