Q: New Time Capsule best way to install
Just purchased Time Capsule 2TB. Currently have Time Capsule dual band 802.11n wi-fi. Can I just unplug old Time Capsule and install new one? I purchased the new one because kept getting msgs saying old one was full.
1. Can I just disconnect old one and plug in new time capsule?
2. Should I transfer files from old one to new one first, or, can I just keep the old time capsule stored away in case I should need something from it in the future?
Also have a MacBook Pro, retina, early 2015 using OS X El Capitan v10.11.6, iPhone 5, iTouch and iPad 4 in addition to iMac late 2013 using Sierra v10.12. As you might have guessed, I am completely clueless here what to do. I am a total novice. Thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions you might have.

Plug WAN port of the new TC into the old TC LAN port with ethernet cord.
In one of the computers open your airport utility.
You should see a little (1) next to Other WiFi Device.
Start the setup wizard by clicking the new one.
The wizard will probably choose the wrong thing.. that is fine.
In the Options tab at the bottom left corner click that and you can choose replace existing Airport.
Once you finish.. (I didn't show to the end because I don't want the replacement to happen) the airport utility will take the values (not data) from the old TC and apply it to the new one.. it will also reset the values on the old TC to factory so you are ready to reconfigure it.
Voila.. you are done.. remove the old TC and plug the new TC in its place.
I recommend you do NOT copy the data across.. which I presume is just TM backups.. Start new fresh backups and save the old TC for a couple of months until you are sure everything is running well.. you can then erase the old TC and sell it or repurpose it.
