Q: Installing Sierra failed how do I get back to original state and start again?

I have attempted to install Sierra on Mac desktop - it was interrupted and now I am unable to get MAC to original state prior to attempting install.  Has anyone else had that issue?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Restore backup made prior to failed upgrade attempt.

    1. Go to Apple menu, then select Restart
    2. When your Mac restarts, you should hear the startup chime.
    3. At this point of time hold down the Command and R key together.
    4. Once you see the Apple logo, release the keys.
    5. Select Restore from a Time machine backup then hit Continue
    6. Select the Time machine backup disk
    7. Select the Time machine backup you want to restore.
    8. Since you want to restore your Mac to the state it was before installing macOS Sierra, select the most recent backup that you created before installing the latest one.

    Follow the on-screen prompts.
