Q: Music missing from iTunes

About a year or so ago, something happened to my iTunes. When I opened it, all of my music was missing.  It asked me to find it and I did.  iTunes found my external hard drive with music, but not all of the music on the internal hard drive.  Since I am not familiar with the file structure on a mac, I struggle to find where the music was saved.  Is there a way to have iTunes scan the internal drive to find all music not linked to iTunes.  I have a large music collection, and it will take a long time to go artist by artist, cd by cd.  Any suggestions would be very helpful.  Thanks.

Not really. You could drag the entire drive to iTunes and the computer would add any media in compatible format to iTunes.  It might take a long time to scan and you might end up with some weird files such as sound files that are parts of applications.

The file structure for iTunes is the same on a Mac as it is on a PC.

This happened a year ago and you are just asking about it now, or has it happened again?

There are several ways this can happen and each has it s own solution. Some background would be helpful or I can just start playing guessing games with your computer.
