Q: iMacos sierra upgrade goes wrong.

yesterday I upgraded my iMac to macOS sierra.

As part of the upgrade I was offered to access all my iMac docs , desktop files etc to be available across my iMac , iPad , iPhone via iCloud.  I accepted this and signed up to increased fee for more iCloud storage..

When I tried to access my photos taken with a canon camera ( and stored in desktop files on iMac )  on my iPad all files were empty.

Now all photos have gone from desktop files on iMac also and file content states zero content.

Have I lost ten years of photos  to a mac upgrade????  It has happened too easily.

Can someone offer HELP  / what to do please  !!!!!!

Did you backup any of the photos?

Lose of data is a certainty. The only question is when.

If you enabled the iCloud Drive look in the iCloud Drive:

Be sure to add the iCloud Drive to the Finder sidebar in the Finder Sidebar preference pane:

If you did not have a backup and it was your only copy of your

photos, it was an accident waiting to happen, upgrade or not.

Trusting your digital life to a single device very unwise as anything

can and eventually will happen.  Its not a matter of if, but when.
