Can't export my Safari passwords?

I'd like to export my Safari passwords to a file, the same way I do from Firefox (where I can easily export them all to a csv-file).

I read through som old posts, and found the 'Go to Keychain Access...'-approach. Supposedly, I'm to select the passwords I want in the Keychain manager, and choose 'Export' in the menu. The Support page has this funny little addendum – "if Export is greyed out, some of the items can't be exported". Now, for whatever reason, "Export" is ALWAYS greyed out. I tried about 30 different single passwords (those are passwords for websites, not some weird certificate files or something like that), and Export was greyed out for each and everyone of them. Obviously, this is a useless approach, or there's some bug in the system. But how do you actually export your passwords?

Any help? Getting kinda desperate. :-(

Export using Keychain Access is not possible... 😟

This command achieves what export would do - it produces a dump in XML to a file. Open an Applications > Utilities > Terminal window and paste the following command:

security dump-keychain -d login.keychain > ~/Documents/keychain.txt

You can find the file in your Documents folder. Not quite what you had in mind (csv) but fodder for some UNIX script magic to extract what you want - that is left as an exercise for you 🙂
