Q: El Capitan/Ricoh printer

Just added a Mac mini running El Capitan to a small network. (I'd tell you which version, but the System Profiler now reports that it "can't be opened".) Other machines — still running Yosemite — are printing fine to Ricoh MP C2003. New one generates "filter failed" error message and won't print. I've seen similar posts that imply the problem is either the driver (with was newly installed) or the mysterious foomatic-rip. Is there a solution that does not involve brain surgery in Terminal? If not, is there a current best solution? Thanks.

No, in fact they won't, nor did they before I posted my question. I did all this basic stuff first; had no effect.

Thanks for replying and that additional info, it really helps. It does appear Ricoh does offer a driver for the Ricoh MP C2003 for OS X El Capitan on their website. I would try following their instructions to install that driver, then restart your Mac and test the issue again.

Yep. Note that it's the same version number (2.6.0.0) as for Yosemite. Nevertheless, I deleted all Ricoh software, PPDs, etc., and re-installed it before adding the printer fresh to restarted print system. Result is the same: "filter failed".

Sounds like you have done all the troubleshooting normally recommended so you may have to contact AppleCare support or Ricoh support, as they have more tools and resources for your specific situation.
